Gouache with Patti Vincent, A Landscape Painting Workshop in Frisco

Event Info

Renowned gouache artist Patti Vincent will guide artists through an informational and hands on three-hour in person gouache painting workshop presented by the Frisco Arts and Culture Council on Friday, August 30 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The first half of the workshop will focus on getting to know gouache (a forgiving opaque water-soluble paint), with the second half of the workshop focusing on painting the landscape. Patti will give guidance and encourage artists to build their painting skills with small gouache paintings.

The three-hour workshop is $80, and artists mah add on supplies for an additional $25 if they don’t have supplies of their own.

About Patti Vincent

Patti Vincent is renowned for her tiny gouache paintings that she creates at her studio in Salida, Colorado. Her paintings are currently featured in Portfolio Gallery in Breckenridge; Rock, Paper, Scissors in Buena Vista; and Sage Mountain Gallery in Salida. Recently, Patti was invited to the Learn to Paint Podcast where she described how she discovered gouache painting and why it may be a good fit for artists. She also talks about her approach to painting with gouache and the importance behind simplification in her paintings.

Patti frequently paints small gouache paintings with big shapes and a big brush, even though her daily paintings are only 2″ x 2”. These small paintings build her painting skills, which she uses to paint larger works in both gouache and oil paint. No matter the size, her paintings appear as fresh and unlabored records of her favorite subjects (Colorado landscapes and her cats). She has instructed many workshops, both in person and online, with the goal of getting her students “excited about painting landscapes with gouache!”

About the Frisco Arts and Culture Council

The Frisco Arts and Culture Council (FACC) was created by Town Council in January 2023 in response to the Frisco Five-Year Arts and Culture Strategic Plan, and the first members were appointed in May 2023. The FACC includes seven community members who have a deep interest in encouraging and growing programs and projects that support art and culture in Frisco for the benefit of the local community. These projects encompass everything from visual arts, such as the seven murals created on Main Street this summer, or events, like a pop-up concert.
